bedMATE of the month #36: Arno Hoogland

Every month we visit a creative and inspiring person. He or she is the 'bedMATE of the month'.

The bedMATE is the most iconic item in our collection. The extra-long pillow serves as a headboard, but also as a cuddle buddy, a friend who offers support.

We get into bed with the 'bedMATE of the month'. We take a look at their home and their colorful (bed)rooms. In conversation, we discover how they experience the SUITE life. What's on their mind? Where do they get their inspiration from? And in what color do they dream?

This month's bedMATE is Arno Hoogland. Arno is a futurist, artist, and creator who crafts immersive interiors where art and functionality converge. We are fans of his work and stepped into his world full of unique creations.

Arno lives in Amsterdam, in a corner house by the water. His home is filled with his own creations. From bookshelves to hidden guest beds, every corner has something unique. "I have a kind of creative urge. Every day I make something, without knowing what it will become. My studio is filled with objects, experiments, and material studies. Sometimes it turns into a piece of furniture, a wall object, or something monumental. And sometimes it never sees the light of day. Styles, colors, and shapes vary from day to day, depending on which side of the bed I woke up on. You can't predict it!"

Arno studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, after which he worked for Studio Müller van Tol for 7 years. “Here I learned everything about interior design. After that, I wanted to create my own worlds, so I started my own studio in combination with a workshop where I can experiment with different materials, from wood to ceramics to metal.

Previously, he presented the "Deus ex Machina" exhibition during Salone Milan.

With a computer milling machine, I created 'The Temple of the Future' there. Tile by tile. All adorned with geometric futuristic patterns and textures. An ode to MDF, as everything was made from it. Even the floor was a desert of MDF dust.
